A flame arrestor   is a safety device fitted on the opening of an enclosure or to the connecting pipe work in a system of enclosure and which allow only gases and liquid etc. to pass through it but prevent the transmission of a flame in order to prevent a larger fire or explosion.

A flame arrestor (also known as a flame arrester) is a critical safety device used in industrial systems to prevent the propagation of flame or explosions. It is generally installed at the opening of an enclosure or within pipework, where it allows gases or vapors to pass through while stopping flames from spreading further into the system. It is important to note that deflagration-type flame arrestors have specific installation requirements, particularly in terms of their placement within the pipeline and the distance from the source of ignition.

An End-of-Line Flame Arrestor is a safety device installed at the termination point of a vent line. It is designed to prevent external ignition sources from igniting flammable vapors exiting a storage tank or process system. When there is even a small pressure difference between the storage tank and the atmosphere, gas, vapor, steam, or aerosol can escape through the vent. If these emissions are ignited outside the system, the flame can travel back through the vent line and potentially ignite the contents of the tank. The end-of-line flame arrestor stops this flame propagation, safeguarding the storage system from fire or explosion hazards.
